| The fateful day Sunday March 28, 1999 was a fateful day in Crawford County History when it was discovered that the 103 year old building was on fire. The Beginning! During the week of February 7, 2000 architects employed by the Crawford County Courthouse committee began their structural survey and feasibility study of the courthouse as a first step to replacing the buildings once majestic roof. With debris from the fire removed many walls stripped to the original brick, the architects and structural engineers were able to determine the strength of the building. Reports came back to the committee that the 103-year-old courthouse is indeed in good shape and can report any roof design the County might approve. | The Architect Ridgeway and Associates of Vincennes, IN. has just recently finished with the planning and supervision of the famous New Baden Hotel near French Lick, IN. Funding There are no tax dollars involved in this project. Both the preliminary study, and construction are intended to be funded by donations and grants. Committee The Crawford County Courthouse Committee was formed under the umbrella organization of the Crawford County Historical Society. Making all donations to the Committee tax deductible.
